A Townsville veteran and his fiance are giving away $6500 in grocery vouchers to people in need during the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the world.

Continually hearing of people’s struggles after losing their jobs because of coronavirus forcing shut many businesses Beau King and Stacey Maree have decided to giveaway 65 $100 Woolworths vouchers to reciprocate the help he got from the community after coming back from three tours of the Middle East.

“I came back pretty unwell with PTSD and all that, and a lot of people in this community helped me,” he said.

“You can’t always take in life, you got to give back as well.

“I just thought we could sort of do something to help while we still can.”

The former 2RAR soldier said the first 45 vouchers quickly went, so he purchased another 20.

Mr King suspected the effects of the coronavirus on people’s lives would have a lasting impact, even once the number of cases subside.

“It’s not just this, it’s the aftermath as well. Mental health is going to be a big thing,” he said.

Mr King urged anyone feeling financial strain to contact him on Facebook to arrange picking up a voucher at his letterbox which is cleaned after each pick-up.
